INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
The goal is to encourage the community connections we all need to thrive by tailoring services to each person. Every individualized program centers on the activities and skills – whether in the arts, computer skills or volunteering – that help make that individual productive and happy. Day habilitation services are offered in eastern and western Orange County as well as in Greene County.
Skills training and other services are offered in community settings to young people living at home or on their own. The service is available to those authorized through the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. We can assist with the application for these and other services.
Homes with 24-hour supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are located throughout communities in Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Greene, and Colombia Counties. These address the needs of a variety of people, including those with behavioral challenges, those with medically fragile conditions, and individuals on the autism spectrum. Other residential options provide assistance with community living in settings designed to foster independence. Counselors are on site or on call to assist individuals in learning the skills necessary for community living.
People with disabilities and their families play a role in designing their own programs of support. A financial management services agency is available to assist individuals in developing their own budgets and hiring their own staff supports. This helps the people served live the healthiest and most independent life possible, whether at home or on their own. Serving residents of Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Rockland, and Dutchess Counties.
Anyone who takes care of a person with challenges can use a break from time to time. Respite services make that possible, supervising the care of people to keep them safe and secure while family members or guardians get that break. Our Coordinators can assist with the applications There are separate programs for children up to the age of three, and those who are older.
